By Zoila Palma: Today, the Placencia Community is joining efforts to save their beach.
Brice Dial and Cassie Dial made the appeal urging residents to take a walk along the beach to see the devastating effects of beach erosion firsthand.
This ongoing issue, coupled with illegal construction and sand removal, is threatening the peninsula’s renowned coastline and its tourism industry. Placencia, a major tourist destination, generates significant revenue for the government and deserves urgent attention.
Residents are removing the stones and clearing their beach.
The community urges residents to write letters expressing concerns, focusing on the causes of beach erosion, illegal structures, and the removal of sand.
Proposed solutions include removing unauthorized structures, halting sand extraction, enforcing regulations, and addressing the specific causes of erosion.
