By Zoila Palma: On July 15, 34 participants from the 37th Cayo Belmopan Phoenix Scout Group took part in an educational field trip through the Chiquibul Maya Mountains as part of their 2025 Summer Camp, themed “Climate Change.”
Led by an Environmental Educator from Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD), the trip focused on the effects of climate change on the Chiquibul ecosystem, FCD’s ongoing conservation efforts, and ways youth can actively contribute to environmental protection.
The experience deepened participants’ appreciation for Belize’s western wilderness and the importance of climate action.
FCD extended special thanks to 15-year-old Venture Scout Etana Belezaire for leading the initiative.
The summer camp was made possible through support from the Belmopan City Council Climate Change Fund.
