By Zoila Palma: Arrivals to Belize over the Easter weekend increased in 2026, driven largely by a sharp rise in air travel, according to data from the Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour.
Total arrivals reached 24,520, up from 23,240 during the same period in 2025, representing a 5.5 percent increase.
The Philip Goldson International Airport recorded the most significant growth among all entry points, with arrivals climbing to 8,735 from 6,366 in 2025.
The 37 percent increase highlights stronger tourism inflows and a growing reliance on air travel during peak holiday periods.
At land borders, the data showed mixed trends.
Arrivals at the western border in Benque Viejo del Carmen rose to 7,050 from 5,490 in 2025, an increase of 28.4 percent.
Meanwhile, the northern border at Corozal declined sharply to 8,642 from 11,330, a drop of 23.7 percent.
Combined crossings at both land borders fell slightly to 15,692 from 16,820, indicating a modest reduction in overland travel.
The figures suggest a shift in regional movement patterns, with fewer travelers entering through Mexico and increased traffic via Guatemala.
Returning residents remained the largest group of arrivals at 13,392, though down from 14,336 in 2025, while tourist arrivals rose significantly to 10,333 from 8,295, a 24.6 percent increase.
