A special collaboration, “Peter London Global Dance Company & Frost Studio Jazz Band,” under the direction of Etienne Charles, will be staged at the University of Miami (UM) Gusman Concert Hall (on the Frost School of Music campus) located at 1314 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, Florida. Description: Composer‑trumpeter Etienne Charles has always told stories in sound—of Carnival streets, ancestral rites, and the living pulse of Caribbean life. In this newly forged partnership he expands that canvas, joining forces with the Frost Studio Jazz Band and the Peter London Global Dance Company, South Florida’s pre‑eminent multicultural contemporary troupe.
The multi-media performance will feature new choreography by fellow Trinidadian-born artist and acclaimed choreographer Peter London set to Etienne Charles’ acclaimed genre-defying suites Bacchanal Tuesday, As an Offering, and Green Thumb – blending live jazz and movement to tell stories rooted in Carnival, ritual, resilience, and Caribbean identity. Framed by a vibrant Creole prelude and narrative introductions from Charles himself, the evening unfolds as an immersive journey through rhythm, movement, and cultural memory.
The project highlights the Frost School’s role as a national hub for artistic collaboration. The announcement of this event arrives during Charles continuing to gain national recognition for his renowned compositions across disciplines, including recent commissioned work Jazz Island for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, while mentoring the next generation of performers and composers at the Frost School.
Etienne Charles is a Miami superstar in his own right, with an extensive career as a trumpet player and composing for jazz which has taken him to iconic venues such as Lincoln Center and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in New York – and beyond. [. . .]
