People’s United Party gears up for conventions in next few months

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Prime Minister John Briceño appeared on Sun Up on Channel 7 this morning and announced that the People’s United Party (PUP) is gearing up for conventions in the next few months.

“The executive is going to meet next week Thursday to discuss that very same thing. We want to start to get ready for conventions and have our candidates in place. I want to give our candidates a minimum of 1 year of preparation,” Briceño said.

 “Hopefully we can have our conventions in the next few months,” Briceño added.

He said that the party plans for these conventions to occur over the next few months, so that candidates can begin preparations for the General Elections.

There is ongoing speculation that there may be conventions in Cayo North and Cayo Central following a significant loss at the polls during the March Municipal elections.

Ramon “Monchi” Quiroz, a three-time contender in Municipal elections, is eyeing the Cayo North seat currently held by Michel “Micho” Chebat.

In Cayo Central, Alex Balona, recently appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, seeks reelection, though facing competition from Oscar Castaneda.

Additionally, there’s speculation about the potential candidacy of former government minister Daniel Silva for the same constituency.

With relations to reports of an early General election, the Prime Minister indicated that elections will be in 2025.
