By Zoila Palma: A patient who recently visited the National Health Insurance (NHI) clinic at La Loma Luz in Santa Elena Town shared a positive experience with Breaking Belize News journalist Zoila Palma, describing the facility as different from other healthcare institutions.
The patient said he was impressed by the welcoming staff, noting that healthcare workers took vital signs and explained each step of the process.
After waiting for his turn to see the doctor, he said he was charged just $2 for the consultation and $2.39 for medication.
The patient encouraged other Belizeans who have not yet registered for NHI to do so, noting that registration only requires a Social Security card.
“NHI is really for the people of Belize,” he said.
“This is the part of Plan Belize I want to see.” he said that the experience demonstrated how accessible healthcare can make a meaningful difference for patients.
