By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The PARIS 2024 Olympics volleyball tournament started with China defeating the defending champions, the United States, in five fiery sets 3-2 (25-20, 25-19, 17-25, 20-25, 15-13) at the South Paris Arena on Monday. The game, which lasted one hour and 50 minutes, was dead even in points, with both teams totaling 102.
Li Yingying led China with 26 points, while Team USA was led by Andrea Drews with 29 points. France and Serbia are the other two participants in Pool A.
Pool B is led by Brazil, who defeated Kenya 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-12). Meanwhile, Poland are in second place after defeating Japan 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 28-26).
Italy lead Pool C after their 3-1 win over the Dominican Republic (25-19, 24-26, 25-21, 25-18). Türkiye are in second place after their 3-2 triumph over the Netherlands. Türkiye came from behind after dropping the first two sets to win 19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-13.
