By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise hosted a training session in Jalacte Village.
The event, organized by the Toledo Agriculture Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and UNICEF, brought together 15 students and 15 parents for a hands-on experience in processing cucumbers harvested from the school garden.
The training session aimed to educate participants on the nutritional benefits of cucumbers and promote the importance of incorporating fresh produce into daily diets.
As part of a broader effort, the Toledo Department of Agriculture and the Ministry of Health/UNICEF have been actively supporting the establishment of 12 school gardens in the district.
From the school garden in Jalacte Village, 40 pounds of cucumbers were harvested and skillfully processed into 50 bottles of refreshing cucumber juice during the training session.
The participants had the opportunity to engage in the entire process, from harvest to the final product.
“This initiative not only promotes healthy eating but also empowers the community to be actively involved in cultivating and processing their own nutritious food,” the Ministry noted.
“The collaborative efforts between the Toledo Department of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health/UNICEF, and the enthusiastic participants in Jalacte Village exemplify a commitment to sustainable and community-driven initiatives that positively impact public health and well-being,” the Ministry added.
