By Zoila Palma: Former UDP Chairman Alberto August and Former UDP leader Shyne Barrow have been publicly critical of the leadership of Tracy Panton.
But, during Tuesday’s UDP Press conference in Belize City, Panton said that she was not asked or endorsed to lead the UDP to “listen to the noise in the market.”
“I have a duty and I have an obligation to the people who are interested in moving this party forward. There’s no magic wand, I’ve been in this role less than six months. You know what we inherited, zero in a bank account, a headquarters that was in shambles, a constitution that was dismantled, dismissed, caretakers were ousted, no sense of fair play, no sense of transparency, no sense of accountability,” Panton explained.
Panton said that the UDP is talented and “there’s room under the tent for anyone who wants to be productive, who wants to be constructive, who wants to help the work of rebuilding the party and for us to regain the trust and confidence of the people.”
Panton warned that “not everyone will get on the ship and if you don’t get on the ship you do so at your peril because one thing I will tell you, this ship will sail.”
