By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Catholic high schools across Belize are embracing the theme ‘Catholic Schools: Alive in Christ’ in observance of Catholic Week, marking the beginning of Lent with a series of insightful and engaging activities. Pallotti High School, along with other schools, has been busy involving students in various events.
Monday’s opening ceremony featured a panel discussion on Catholic education, followed by a unique storytelling session on Tuesday, where teachers narrated Bible stories, bringing scripture to life for students.
Wednesday centered on prayer, meditation, and reconciliation with Ash Wednesday Mass and ashes distribution, fostering spiritual growth and introspection. Thursday was a family affair, with students having breakfast with their grandparents.
The week’s activities culminated with First Friday Mass and community service on Friday. Students helped around Belize City by visiting Catholic parishes and primary schools such as St. Joseph, St. Martin de Porres, St. John’s Vianney, Holy Redeemer, and St. Ignatius. They are also visiting Stella Maris School, which was initiated by the Pallottine nuns. Students also went to other schools, such as Queen Square Anglican Primary School and Wesley Upper Methodist School. Some students visited and assisted the nuns at the Pallotti Convent, while others cleaned parks in the Buttonwood Bay area.

“Catholic Week is very important to us because one of the main goals of a Catholic School is to create an environment where students get to encounter God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit,” Pallotti High School Principal Rushawn Reynolds-Bowman told Breaking Belize News.
“This week’s events allowed students to engage in meaningful prayer, mass, Bible study, Confession, and community service which are some of the pillars of Catholic Education. It is important to note that Catholic Education aims to educate not only the mind but also the heart.”
Pallotti High School’s involvement in Catholic Week has been both dynamic and impactful—a vibrant display of faith and community engagement.
