By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Pallotti High School is celebrating World Food Day on Thursday, October 16, 2025, with a vibrant, schoolwide breakfast that brings students and teachers together in a spirit of gratitude, reflection, and community.

Each classroom at the all-girls Catholic institution has transformed into a cozy breakfast nook, where teachers and students are sharing traditional Belizean dishes they prepared together. The menus vary by class, featuring comforting favourites like scrambled eggs, journey cakes, pancakes, fried jacks, fried beans, sausages, banana bread, and fresh fruits.

The event is more than just a meal — it’s a moment to honour the people and processes behind the food we often take for granted. Food and Nutrition teacher Pauline Davis set the tone for the morning with a prayer broadcast over the school’s PA system:

“We give thanks for the farmers and all the workers who labour each day to feed families and communities,” Davis said.

“We thank you for the rain, the soil, and the sunlight that make the earth fruitful. Lord, we remember those who are hungry and in need. Inspire us to have compassion for others, to share what we have generously and use food wisely, without waste.

“Protect our nation and our people and spare us from all forms of natural disasters. Help us to work together for a world where no one goes to bed hungry and where every table is filled with love, food, and gratitude … Happy World Food Day!”

The celebration fills the classrooms with laughter and conversation as students reflect on the global significance of food security, sustainability, and the joy of sharing a meal. Students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to reflect on the global challenges of hunger while enjoying the comfort of a shared meal with their peers and mentors.

Pallotti High School’s observance of World Food Day highlighted the power of education and compassion in shaping a more equitable future—one plate, one prayer, and one classroom at a time.
