By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Pallotti High School overcame archrivals St Catherine Academy 3-2 in the Final to win the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Football Championship at the Marion Jones Sports Complex on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

Captain Jasha Bernardez scored a hat-trick for Pallotti in a comeback effort after being down 1-0 and 2-1. The game-winner was a penalty kick goal after Neylanie Noralez was fouled in the box.

Pallotti will now represent the CSSSA in the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) Championship in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

The match began with high intensity, and Pallotti took an early lead in the 23rd minute when Davae McCaulay found the back of the net, making it 1-0. St Catherine Academy responded strongly, and Bernardez equalised in the 50th minute with a well-placed shot.

Just five minutes later, Maliyah Garcia scored to give St Catherine Academy a 2-1 lead, putting the pressure back on Pallotti. However, the resilient Pallotti team quickly regrouped, and Bernardez once again proved to be the difference-maker by scoring the equaliser in the 62nd minute, bringing the score to 2-2.

The match reached a pivotal moment in the 65th minute when St Catherine Academy conceded a penalty after a foul on Neylanie Noralez. Bernardez calmly converted the penalty kick, securing her hat-trick and giving Pallotti a 3-2 lead.

Despite several attempts by St Catherine Academy to level the score, Pallotti’s defence held strong, and they celebrated their well-deserved victory as the final whistle blew.

The win marks a significant achievement for Pallotti High School, who had not won the CSSSA tournament in years.
