By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belize’s efforts to build climate resilience received a major boost on August 29, 2025, when the Protected Areas Conservation Trust signed agreements awarding more than BZ$3.2 million in new grants. The signing took place during the country’s first-ever Climate Finance Forum, organized by the Ministry of Economic Transformation

The four subprojects are expected to improve community resilience to climate change impacts, directly benefiting more than 48,000 people in 15 communities over the next five years. They include watershed protection in the Macal and Mopan rivers, boosting the Ladyville Fire Station’s emergency response, advancing fire management strategies led by the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center, and flood mitigation projects in Orange Walk and Toledo.

These new projects build on four other grants awarded earlier this year to municipal, community, and agricultural agencies. In total, PACT has now committed BZ$10 million to eight projects targeting forest and water protection, wildfire management, alternative livelihoods, national climate finance capacity, and disaster risk reduction.

PACT continues to serve as Belize’s link to the Adaptation Fund, ensuring that international climate financing is translated into concrete action at the community level.
