By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise has announced the official registration of the Oxmul Farmers Co-operative Society Limited, marking a significant milestone for farmers in San Antonio Village, Cayo District.
The registration ceremony, held on Monday, October 27, 2025, formalized the transition of Oxmul from an informal farmers’ group to a recognized co-operative enterprise under the supervision of the Department of Co-operatives.
With its new legal status, the co-operative now gains access to a range of institutional support services, including auditing, conflict resolution, and entrepreneurial development programs.
The group is engaged in the production and marketing of vegetables, fruits, and tilapia, and comprises 19 members—14 men and 5 women—all from San Antonio Village. The establishment of the co-operative is expected to strengthen local agricultural productivity and create new opportunities for economic empowerment within the community.
The registration ceremony featured several government representatives, including Alex Balona, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, who delivered the keynote address. He was joined by Hon. Ramiro Ramirez, Minister of State in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management; Gilroy Usher, Minister of State in the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy & Logistics; and Devyn Daly, Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth & Sports.
Additional remarks were delivered by Gareth Murillo, Registrar of Co-operatives; Leroy Santos, Chairman of the Co-operative; and Aron Tzib, Chairman of San Antonio Village.
