OWFA Season Opener: Mi Gente, Louisiana FC win big; champions Yo Creek United open title defense with draw

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) launched its 2025 season in thrilling fashion on Sunday, October 5th, with three high-scoring clashes at the Louisiana Football Field that set the tone for a competitive campaign.

Louisiana FC open with 4–2 win over Palmar FC

The season’s curtain-raiser saw Louisiana FC outpace Palmar FC 4–2 in a second-half goal fest. After a goalless first half, Dykman Francisco broke through with a brace in the 53rd and 62nd minutes, igniting Louisiana’s attack. Zidane Carcano added a third in the 69th, and Andre Ramirez sealed the win in the 84th.

Palmar FC responded with back-to-back goals from Luis Gonzalez (65’) and Gerardo Gongora (66’), but couldn’t keep pace with Louisiana’s late surge.

Defending Champs Yo Creek United held to 3–3 braw by August Pine Ridge Central

Then, reigning OWFA champions Yo Creek United were held to a dramatic 3–3 draw by a resilient August Pine Ridge Central side. Axel Alamilla struck in the 1st minute, followed by Liam Reyes in the 16th. August Pine Ridge responded through A. Murillo (27’, 79’) and M. Tuz (87’), but Nazim Aldana salvaged a point for Yo Creek with a clutch equalizer in the 90th.

Mi Gente outgun Guinea Grass FC 5–2

Mi Gente closed the day with a dominant 5–2 victory over Guinea Grass FC. Victor Novelo opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, and Miguel Yco’s second-half brace (68’, 83’) proved decisive. Jesse August added a goal in the 79th to complete the rout.

Guinea Grass FC showed flashes of fight with goals from D. Diego and K. Cordova, but Mi Gente’s attacking trio proved too much to handle.

With 19 goals across three matches, the OWFA season is off to a roaring start. The defending champs have already been tested, and contenders like Mi Gente and Louisiana FC are making early noise. Fans can expect more fireworks as teams settle into rhythm.
