Overwhelming calls for Conventions in Cayo Central

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Last night, leaders of the People’s United Party (PUP) in Cayo Central including Village leaders and activists in Santa Elena participated in a meeting in Georgeville Village.

During the meeting, supporters of the PUP expressed an overwhelming call for Conventions in Cayo Central.

Amidst the discussions, supporters expressed disappointment for the lack of projects and assistance for the people of Cayo Central.

Area Representative Alex Balona who was recently appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture provided some updates on his efforts to lobby for assistance for the constituency.

Meanwhile, political giant and Former Government Minister Daniel Silva was faced with a significant plea from the leaders, to contest the conventions for Cayo Central.

Silva indicated that once announced and if given the opportunity, he will contest.

Vibrant young activists from Santa Elena expressed their frustrations with being unable to obtain any sort of assistance for education despite visiting the Area Representative’s office numerous times to request assistance.

Former President of the BYM and now President of the Youth Empowerment Alliance Adrian Palma reiterated that the “People have the Power to elect and remove”.

“The Peaceful Constructive Belizean Revolution continues to impact Belize and the good people of Cayo,” Palma said.

“While the party is yet to make an official decision on convention in Cayo Central, two names were called.

The incumbent, Hon. Alex Balona and well known politician, past minister, Mr. Daniel Silva.

While some leaders expressed their sentiments and others remained quiet, ONE THING IS CLEAR: THE PEOPLE OF CAYO CENTRAL WANT A CONVENTION,” he added.

“The People are the ones that give power

The People are the ones that take away power,” Palma reiterated.

Following the meeting, leaders urged the Area Representative and his committee to maintain a free flow of communication for leaders and residents to be informed of any projects coming to their area.

In addition, they requested that the Area Representative demonstrate transparency in assigning roles to those that would share the information on important clinics and/or projects being planned in their respective villages.
