Oscar Galindo, 20, is charged with traffic accident death of Denia Rowland, 19

By Aaron Humes: Construction worker Oscar Galindo, 20, of Pitter Street, Belize City, has been charged with four traffic offenses related to the death of 19-year-old Denia Rowland of Lords’ Bank, Belize District, who was killed after he lost control of a vehicle while driving on the Philip Goldson Highway on Saturday.

Rowland died on impact from hitting the pavement after being flung out of the vehicle, which flipped several times.

Galindo, who was represented in court by attorney Norman Moore, is charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit, and negligent grievous harm upon Glenford Dougal.

Galindo was offered and met bail of $6,000 and a surety and must report to the Racoon Street Police Station every two weeks as he claims he works out at a caye offshore. He returns to court on June 7.

Galindo was driving a gold-colored 2-door Ford Ranger pick-up, accompanied by Wilson Larios, Dougal and Dougal’s girlfriend Rowland, seated directly behind him. They were traveling from Sandhill toward Ladyville when between Miles 17 and 18 on the Philip Goldson Highway, Galindo lost control of the vehicle which caused the vehicle to flip several times, and as a result, Rowland was flung from the vehicle and on impact landed on the shoulder of the highway, also breaking her ankles.

Police responding to the accident scene said the driver, Galindo, smelt strongly of alcohol on his breath and was observed to be speeding. He gave police a urine sample which led to the drunk driving charge.
