By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 46-year-old Orange Walk resident accused of human trafficking walked free from court on Tuesday morning after the charges against her were struck out for want of prosecution.

Reyna Urbina was cleared of two counts of labour trafficking and two counts of sex trafficking when she appeared before Magistrate Sharmaine Gillette in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court at around 11:45 a.m.

Her release came after her attorney, Dr. Lynden N. Jones of L. N. Jones and Associates, successfully applied for the matter to be struck out.

In his submissions, Dr. Jones argued that the Orange Walk Prosecution Branch repeatedly breached disclosure deadlines set out under the Belize Criminal Procedure Rules 2016 as well as previous orders of the court. He told the court that those breaches caused delays and violated Urbina’s constitutional right to a fair hearing under Section 6 of the Belize Constitution.

Magistrate Gillette upheld the application and ordered that the charges against Urbina be struck out, effectively setting her free.

Urbina had been arrested and charged on November 13, 2025, following a joint investigation by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons (A-TIPs) Police Unit. Authorities alleged that she trafficked two adult Central American women for labour and sexual exploitation.

After her arraignment in November 2025, Urbina had been granted bail of $10,000 plus two sureties of $5,000 eachunder strict conditions. The court had ordered that she surrender all travel documents, not leave the country without the court’s permission, and refrain from contacting or interfering with the virtual complainants or any witnesses in the case.

With the charges now struck out, Urbina has been freed of the allegations.
