By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Orange Walk police are investigating a mysterious vehicle fire that occurred near the Establo roundabout late Thursday night, leaving a Ford SUV destroyed and its driver missing.
Police say they received information about the blaze around 10:30 p.m., and upon arrival, found the SUV completely engulfed in flames in front of Indian Hill BWell. Firefighters were already on-site working to put out the fire.
A security officer from the nearby gas station told police that earlier in the night, he observed the SUV—bearing Corozal license plates ending in 2939—stop in front of the gate before smoke began to rise from its engine. Within moments, the vehicle caught fire.
The security guard also reported seeing a Hispanic male exit the SUV and run toward Trial Farm Village, appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The man has not been located, and police continue to investigate the incident.
Authorities are working to determine whether the fire was accidental, mechanical, or deliberately set.
