Orange Walk parking lot fight proves saying “excuse me” can apparently get very expensive

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Friday morning scuffle in an Orange Walk business parking lot has ended with both women involved formally charged with harm, after a confrontation that began with a shove and a request for basic courtesy left each with injuries certified by a doctor.

According to the Belize Police Department, a 23-year-old woman of San Pablo Village reported that on Friday, August 7, 2026, she and her sister were standing in a business parking lot eating meat pies when two women passed by, one of whom she has known for about two years.

According to the report, one of the women pushed herself between the two sisters, prompting the complainant to tell her to say excuse next time. The woman then turned around, came at them, pushed the sister out of the way, grabbed the complainant by her hair, and scratched her below the left eye. The complainant fought back, scratching the woman on both hands and her face. The sister jumped in and tried to separate the two but could not, and the complainant called her father, who brought her to the Orange Walk Police Station. Police brought the other women to the station as well.

At the station, both injured women were issued medico-legal forms, and a doctor certified both of their injuries as harm. Statements were recorded from both, and both were detained pending charges.

On Friday, August 7, police obtained a warrant in the first instance and formally arrested and charged both Angelina Gonzalez, a 23-year-old of San Pablo Village, and Merari Ramirez, a 27-year-old supervisor of Chan Pine Ridge Village, with the crime of harm. Both were cautioned and chose to remain silent, and both were granted bail to appear before the Magistrate Court on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

On Monday morning, both sides of Friday’s parking lot quarrel will stand before the same magistrate, and the shove that started it all will be measured at its full price.
