By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged a 40-year-old man from the Orange Walk District with two counts of possession of controlled drugs.
On Tuesday, October 29, around 6:15 p.m., police executed a search warrant at the residence of Nelson Balan, a Belizean fireman from the Orange Walk District. Upon the police’s arrival, Balan was seen running into a room and discarding two transparent plastic bags, which were retrieved and found to contain suspected cannabis. A search of Balan uncovered two additional small transparent plastic bags containing suspected cannabis and one transparent plastic bag containing suspected cocaine.
The suspected cannabis was weighed at 24 grams (0.84 ounces), while the suspected cocaine amounted to 0.72 grams (0.025 ounces).
Nelson Balan was arraigned in court, pleaded guilty and was fined $1,200 and cost of court.
