By Aaron Humes: Police have made an arrest in connection with an attempted robbery in Orange Walk Town. 40-year-old Oscar Arnulfo Calderon, a laborer from San Ignacio Street, has been charged after investigators linked him to an attempted heist at Bangladesh Minimart last week.

On Monday during a press briefing, Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith said surveillance footage played a key role in cracking the case: “[The owner] was at his business, namely Bangladesh Minimart, when a male person who was masked entered that establishment and produced a metal pipe and made demands of him, the male person is also reported to have raised his shirt, at which time the proprietor said he observed a firearm. As a consequence of this, the proprietor fled that establishment, and the matter was later reported to the police. The investigators retrieved [some] video footage from various locations in the vicinity, and this led them to [execute] a search warrant at the residence of Calderon, which also yielded matters or pieces of evidential material.”
