By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police in Carmelita Village, Orange Walk have detained a 31-year-old man after a series of alarming incidents involving threats of violence against his brother-in-law and members of the same household.
According to the report, a 40-year-old maintenance worker told police that on November 26, around midday, he was at home on lunch break with his five-year-old child when his brother-in-law entered the house uninvited. The man allegedly pointed at him, touched him on the shoulder, and threatened to kill him and his family before leaving without further incident.
The following afternoon, on November 27, the victim was at his workplace assisting his father-in-law with motorcycle repairs when the same relative allegedly approached him again and threatened to shoot him and his family. When the victim’s father-in-law attempted to call police, the suspect reportedly fled the compound by running to the back of the property and jumping the gate.
The victim told officers that he was fearful for his life following both encounters.
On November 28, the situation escalated when the victim noticed the same individual walking near his home. After checking on his family, he observed the man wearing a pair of his 12-year-old son’s white rubber boots, valued at $35, which had been left on the front veranda. The suspect allegedly made another threatening remark before walking off.
The victim contacted his employer, who assisted in calling the police. Officials detained the suspect, identified as Nelson Donald Rhaburn, 31, of Carmelita Village.
He has been held pending charges of:
- Theft
- Common Assault
- Two counts of Threats to Death
The stolen boots were recovered. Police say the matter remains under investigation.
