By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) is set to kick off its 2024-25 Closing Championship this coming Saturday, March 8, at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk.
Originally scheduled to begin last Saturday, March 1, the tournament was postponed to ensure all preparations were in place. The tournament features two groups, Group A and Group B, each comprising six competitive teams vying for the top spots to advance to the quarterfinals.
Yo Creek United FC will be defending the title they won in the 2024-25 Opening Season when they beat the San Jose Pumas 5-3 in the final. These two teams will soon be facing each other again as they will compete in Group B in the upcoming season. Keep an eye out for Yo Creek United as they defend their championship title, aiming for another successful run in this year’s competition.
The tournament is divided into two groups:
- Group A
- TF Legends FC
- Sandy Field Wolverines FC
- San Estevan Soccer Team FC
- LA Tigers FC
- Progresso FC
- San Jose FC
- Group B
- Yo Creek United FC (Defending Champions)
- San Jose Pumas FC
- August Pine Ridge Central FC
- Crystal FC
- Guinea Grass FC
- Mi Gente FC
The weekend fixtures are as follows:
Saturday, March 8, 2025:
- Group A: TF Legends FC vs. Sandy Field Wolverines FC at 7:30 pm at Louisiana Football Field
- Group B: San Jose Pumas FC vs. August Pine Ridge Central FC at 9:30 pm at Louisiana Football Field
Sunday, March 9, 2025:
- Group A: San Estevan Soccer Team FC vs. LA Tigers FC at 11:00 am at Louisiana Football Field
- Group B: Crystal FC vs. Guinea Grass FC at 1:00 pm at Louisiana Football Field
- Group A: Progresso FC vs. San Jose FC at 3:00 pm at Louisiana Football Field
- Group B: Mi Gente FC vs. Yo Creek United FC at 5:00 pm at Louisiana Football Field
The top four teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, which are scheduled to begin on April 13. All playoff series, including the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, will be played over two legs, ensuring an exciting and competitive conclusion to the season. The tournament is expected to conclude by May 18.
The OWFA said all matches will be held at the Louisiana Football Field.
