By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) recently celebrated the outstanding performance of young footballers from their district who were honoured by the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) at an awards ceremony for youth football.
Earlier this year, from July to September, the FFB held its Youth U15 Male and U17 Male Interdistrict Tournaments. The Orange Walk teams performed exceptionally well. Progresso FC emerged as champions in the U17 category while San Estevan Soccer Team clinched the runner-up spot. Additionally, Progresso FC secured the runner-up position in the U15 category. The San Estevan Youngsters also competed in the U15 tournament.
The FFB recognized the remarkable achievements of players in both categories, with several Orange Walk players being acknowledged for their exceptional skills and contributions:

U17 Male Category
- Best Goalkeeper: Orlando Cocom (San Estevan Soccer Team FC)
- Best Defender: Aiden Tillett (San Estevan Soccer Team FC)
- Best Midfielder: Byron Marroquin (San Estevan Soccer Team FC)
- Most Goals: Hadid Torres (San Estevan Soccer Team FC)
- Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Young Player: Bryce Lawrence (Progresso FC)
U15 Male Category
- Best Goalkeeper: Enrique Gongora (Progresso FC)
- Best Defender: Aiden Andrades (San Estevan Youngsters FC)
- Best Midfielder: Jamid Muniz (San Estevan Youngsters FC)
- Best Young Player: Eswin Tzul (San Estevan Youngsters FC)

The OWFA executive congratulated all the young players for their outstanding performance during the tournament. They also recognized the efforts of club owners, players, and parents for their dedication and support in making the OWFA youth tournaments a success, providing opportunities for players to develop their skills in competitive environments.
“Continue achieving great things in football and making the Orange Walk Football Family proud. Congratulations to you all,” the OWFA executive stated.
The recognition by the FFB and the OWFA’s acknowledgment of their youth players’ efforts along with their commitment to nurturing young talent, augurs well for the future of football in the Orange Walk District.
