By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police in the Orange Walk District are investigating a violent confrontation in Santa Marta Village that left a 31-year-old farmer injured and hospitalized on Saturday night, November 8, 2025.
Authorities were called to the scene around 10:10 p.m. after receiving reports of a man being badly beaten. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying on the ground, tied with a rope, suffering from visible facial injuries. Nearby, police also discovered a Coca-Cola pint bottle containing a liquid suspected to be kerosene.
Initial investigations revealed that the confrontation stemmed from a longstanding land dispute between the victim and the Tun family—four brothers who reportedly became involved in a physical altercation after an exchange of stones and threats.
According to police, the altercation began when the victim drove past the Tun residence in his pickup truck, and the brothers allegedly began throwing stones at his vehicle. The man reportedly returned home, armed himself with a machete and bottles of kerosene, and went back to confront them.
He allegedly lit a pint bottle and threw it toward the Tun brothers, but missed. The men then wrestled him to the ground, disarmed him, and tied him up before beating him.
The victim’s wife reportedly intervened, ending the assault. He was later transported to the Northern Regional Hospital for medical attention and remains under observation.
Police have since detained two of the Tun brothers as part of their ongoing investigation into the incident. The victim’s vehicle, which showed multiple dents, was photographed and processed by the Scenes of Crime personnel.
Authorities confirm that the matter remains under investigation, and charges are pending once all statements and medical reports are reviewed.
