By Zoila Palma: Opposition Leader Tracy Panton has welcomed the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact grant aimed at improving education delivery and technical training in Belize, while emphasizing the importance of inclusive reforms and the involvement of educators.
In her Independence Day address, Panton identified education as a key component of national development and noted that educational expenses continue to create financial challenges for many families.
“Education is equally central to national development, yet for too many it remains a heavy financial burden,” Panton stated.
She expressed support for the MCC Compact grant, which she said would contribute to improvements in education delivery and technical training over a five-year period. Panton also stressed the need to preserve the long-standing Church-State partnership in education.
“We therefore welcome the MCC Compact grant to improve education delivery and technical training over five years,” she said.
Panton further emphasized the importance of including teachers in the reform process, stating, “Ensuring that the concerns of dedicated educators help to shape and execute such meaningful reform.”
