By Aaron Humes: Following on from the Government of Belize’s congratulations to returning President-elect Donald J. Trump of the United States, Opposition Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow firstly cited “having fair, free and peaceful elections” before directly congratulating Trump on social media.
Barrow said, “We wish President-elect Trump and the American people [as] well as Belize remains committed to strengthening the strong bilateral relations shared by our Nations for the last 43 years.”
Trump, representing the Republican Party, reached the majority of votes needed in the Electoral College early on Wednesday after sweeping five of seven swing states with two more still to be called; Democratic Party nominee and Vice-president Kamala Harris has conceded with the College to meet on December 17.
