By Zoila Palma:  Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton has condemned Guatemalan military presence in Belizean waters on Independence Day.

On September 21, 2025, as Belize celebrated 44 years of Independence, numerous reports surfaced on social media of the sightings of Guatemalan army vessels in Belizean waters.

“GAF Military Vessels in Belizean waters on the day of our Independence is blatantly disrespectful and an affront to our national sovereignty.  It is simply UNACCEPTABLE!!!

We can not continue to allow these incidences to slide.  We must diplomacy to the test in the interest of safeguarding our territorial integrity.  The Government is silent,” Panton said.

“The future of Belize is in our hands. Stay Awake BELIZE,” Panton affirmed.
