One-year-old baby boy dies after choking on worm pill

By Aaron Humes: Police are looking into the sudden death of an infant in the Cayo District this morning.

A police report states that the child’s father had given the baby boy, a year old, half of a worm pill prescribed by the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan just after nine-thirty this morning.

It appears the baby began experiencing breathing issues and was taken to the Western Regional, but arrived unresponsive and without a heartbeat.

The pill apparently lodged in his airway and could not be removed, and the child could not be revived. Preliminary cause of death was identified as suspected foreign body obstruction of the airway.
