By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two men accused of being gang members faced separate fates in court on Monday—one was remanded to prison while the other walked free.

The accused are 26-year-old Antwone Alburn Rivero and 25-year-old Tony McDonald. Rivero, a resident of Handyside Street, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a single charge of being a member of a gang, specifically the Majestic Alley Crips (MAC).

Rivero appeared before a Magistrate in Court #5, where he pleaded not guilty. However, due to the nature of the offense, he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 2025. Police allege that Rivero is a gang member engaged in serious criminal activities.

Meanwhile, McDonald, who had been facing a similar charge, was set free today. According to McDonald, he had been going back and forth to court for over six years on allegations that he was a member of the South Side Gang (SSG), a charge dating back to 2019. This morning, when he appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, the charge was officially withdrawn.

McDonald, who works as a fisherman, maintained that he has never been affiliated with a gang. Speaking outside the courtroom, he stated that police never had enough evidence to convict him.

He also shared that upon a previous return to prison, authorities placed him in solitary confinement, as he had been on parole when he was sent back behind bars for the offense of keeping ammunition without a gun license.

With his name cleared, McDonald now looks forward to moving on from the case that has shadowed him for years, while Rivero remains in custody awaiting trial.
