By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Olimpia are champions of Honduran football once again. The capital‑city giants defeated Marathón 1–0 on Tuesday night at the Estadio Nacional “Chelato” Uclés in Tegucigalpa, sealing a 3–2 aggregate victory in the Liga Hondubet Apertura 2025 final and adding another chapter to their storied history.

After a tense and balanced first half, the breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart (55’). José Mario Pinto, one of Olimpia’s most influential midfielders, struck the decisive goal with a composed finish that sent the home crowd into celebration. His second‑half strike not only broke the deadlock on the night but ultimately delivered the championship and earned him the MVP of the Final award.

Marathón pushed forward in the closing stages, searching for the equalizer that would have forced extra time, but Olimpia’s defensive structure held firm. Backed by a packed stadium and buoyed by their experience in finals, the Albo back line absorbed pressure and protected the narrow lead until the final whistle.

The victory secures Olimpia’s 40th league title, reinforcing their status as the most successful club in Honduras. It also confirms their place in the upcoming Concacaf Champions Cup, where they will once again represent Honduran football on the regional stage.

Their qualification adds an intriguing layer for Belizean fans as well. With the Premier League of Belize set to kick off its new season on January 17, the country’s representative for the 2026 Concacaf tournament has not yet been finalized. However, Verdes FC currently hold the inside track after winning the PLB 2025–2026 Opening Championship on December 13 with a tight 1–0 aggregate victory over Progresso.

Depending on how the Belizean season unfolds, Verdes — or another PLB contender — could find themselves facing Olimpia in mid‑year regional competition.
