Northern Regional High School Girls Football Tournament kicks off in Orange Walk Saturday morning

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Northern Regional High School Girls Football Tournament will take place on Saturday, February 8, at the Orange Walk People’s Stadium. Organized by the Northern Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA), the tournament has drawn enthusiastic support from fans of the Northern high schools, with the girls’ teams ready to showcase their skills.

The girls’ matches will kick off with a match between defending regional champions and current Zone 3 champions, Belize High School of Agriculture (BHSA), and Zone 4 champions, San Pedro High School (SPHS), at 8:45 am. The second match will feature Zone 1 champs, Corozal Community College (CCC), against Zone 2 champs, Orange Walk Technical High School (OWTHS).

The winners will play for the championship. The team that emerges as the Northern Champions will then go on to the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) championship. The better loser in the semifinals will earn third place.

Belize High School of Agriculture (BHSA) won the girls’ tournament in 2024, setting a high benchmark for this year’s participants.

The schedule for the girls’ matches is as follows:

• Game 1: BHSA vs. SPHS @ 8:45 am
• Game 3: CCC vs. OWTHS
• Game 5: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 3

Incidentally, the boys championship is held along with the girls championship. The 2024 NSTA champions, Muffles College, who went on to win the NSSSA championship, were eliminated in Zone 2 by Bishop Martin High School.
