By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Institute of Archaeology (NICH) has issued an early morning advisory announcing the temporary closure of the Nohoch Che’en Archaeological Reserve due to elevated river conditions. The notice, released at 7:00 am on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, urges tour operators and guides to exercise heightened caution, especially during water-based activities.
While Nohoch Che’en was closed on Tuesday and remains closed until further notice, all other archaeological reserves across Belize remain open for visitation. The Institute emphasized that weather conditions may continue to shift and that safety remains the top priority.
The Institute of Archaeology is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as conditions evolve. Visitors are encouraged to check official channels before planning excursions and to follow all safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
