By Aaron Humes: The Cabinet has decided not to issue permits for any newly proposed extraction sites along the North Stann Creek River in 2026.
Upon receiving information regarding the current status of sand and gravel extraction along the North Stann Creek River, the Cabinet has determined that a cautious and regulated approach is necessary.
Consequently, the Cabinet also recommended that, for the second quarter of 2026, a technical reassessment of identified bars should be conducted to determine eligibility and extraction limits.
The river flows through the northern Stann Creek District into Dangriga Town, discharging into the Caribbean Sea.
