By Aaron Humes: 23-year-old Selvin Sealy was reported to have died of asphyxiation while in police custody. As the investigation unfolds, police officials have confirmed that no charges have been filed against the officers involved at this time.
ASP Stacy Smith, a Staff Officer with the Police Department, noted that the department is currently awaiting a statement from the medical examiner to determine the specifics of Sealy’s injuries. “The DPP office has directed a more detailed report from the pathologist,” ASP Smith explained. The ongoing investigation includes an internal review, which will proceed based on the directives provided by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
When questioned about the status of the officers involved, ASP Smith confirmed they are still on suspension. “Yes, they remain on suspension and the parallel internal investigation continues. It is anticipated that as the directives are given, they will be placed on interdiction if warranted, and subsequent actions will be taken,” she said.
