By Breaking Belize News Staff: Public pressure is mounting in Belize as questions intensify over the lack of charges against Dalia Vellos following the shooting death of her common-law husband, Wilson Hernandez on Sunday.
Hernandez was fatally shot during an altercation involving Vellos, sparking widespread calls for legal action.
While police have charged Vellos’ niece, Christy Guzman, with manslaughter, Vellos herself has not been charged.
A video circulating on social media appears to show Guzman handing a firearm to Vellos moments before the fatal shooting.
Reports indicate that Hernandez was shot with Vellos’ licensed weapon, further fueling public concern about her potential involvement.
Police have stated that both Vellos and Guzman claimed Hernandez assaulted them and that the shooting occurred in self-defense.
However, speculation is growing that Vellos’ alleged ties to a prominent business family in Belmopan may be influencing the course of the investigation.
Critics argue that the circumstances warrant at least an abetment charge, given that her weapon was used in the deadly incident.
The case has also reignited public mistrust in the justice system, with some Belizeans drawing parallels to a previous unresolved death involving the wife of a well-known Belmopan businessman.
