No bail for ’32’ — Magistrate decides Jahreem Staine’s mere presence in public is a threat to society after bomb threat at court, wild shootout near school, multiple attempts on his life

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Tonight, 22-year-old Jahreem Isaiah Staine, better known as “32,” the reputed boss of the Backa Land Crips (BLC) is back behind bars after being denied bail on two new charges of contempt of a judicial order. The Electric Avenue resident appeared before Chief Magistrate Deborah Rogers this afternoon, just two days after his last court appearance.

The arraignment, which was delayed due to an alleged bomb threat at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, saw heated exchanges between Staine’s attorney, Norman Rodriguez, and the prosecution. Rodriguez argued that the charges were vague and lacked necessary details, asking the court to dismiss them entirely. However, Chief Magistrate Rogers rejected his submission, ruling that the charges were properly before the court.

Staine is accused of failing to sign in at the Belama Police Station on two occasions — September 5 and October 3, 2025 — a condition of his High Court bail for an ongoing attempted murder case. His attorney submitted two medical documents from the KHMH in his defense, suggesting that health issues explained his absence.

But Staff Officer Stacey Smith, prosecuting on behalf of the Commissioner of Police’s office, strongly objected to bail, citing both public safety and Staine’s personal safety. Smith told the court that Staine has survived two recent, high-level assassination attempts — one on September 5 and another on September 26 — involving dozens of gunshots fired in public spaces near schools.

According to Smith, “It is unfortunate for Mr. Staine, but these repeated attacks endanger not only his life but also the public, as the gunmen clearly have no regard for innocent bystanders.”

Chief Magistrate Rogers ultimately agreed, denying bail on the grounds that Staine had repeatedly breached bail conditions and that his continued presence in public posed a risk to both himself and others. She noted that if Staine failed to comply with bail conditions in a serious charge like attempted murder, there was no assurance he would respect them in lesser matters.

Staine was remanded to the Belize Central Prison, though the court acknowledged that even there, his safety could not be fully guaranteed. He has the right to apply to the High Court for bail, but the same objections may be raised when he does so.

Staine, a father of two, now faces three total breaches of his High Court bail, putting him at risk of having that bail revoked entirely.
