Nice try, pops: 62-year-old’s “toss and talk later” drug strategy fails in Orange Walk

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP):  A late-night police patrol in Orange Walk Town resulted in the arrest and charging of a man for drug possession.

Reports indicate that shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, officers conducting mobile patrol on Staines Alley observed a man acting suspiciously. Upon noticing the marked police vehicle, the individual allegedly threw an object to the ground.

The officers immediately stopped and searched the area, where they discovered two small pieces of a white substance suspected to be crack cocaine.

The man was informed of the offence, cautioned, and taken into custody. He was later identified as a 62-year-old laborer of George Street in Orange Walk Town.

At the police station, the substance was weighed and recorded as 0.3 grams before being sealed and processed as evidence.

He was subsequently formally arrested and charged for the offence of possession of a controlled drug. Police report that he remained silent after being cautioned.
