New welcome sign unveiled at Douglas D’Silva Forest Station

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A newly completed welcome sign at the Douglas D’Silva Forest Station in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve is now greeting visitors with a vivid display of Belize’s natural heritage. The sign was painted last week by Belizean artist Jorge Landero, whose work captures the unique landscapes and biodiversity of the reserve.

The artwork features towering pine trees, cascading waterfalls, cave systems, and native wildlife, all elements commonly found within the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. The Douglas D’Silva Forest Station, formerly known as the Augustine Forest Station, is situated within Belize’s first and oldest forest reserve, which was established in 1944 to protect and manage native pine species.

Forest Ranger Michael Burton, who is stationed at the Douglas D’Silva Forest Station, played a supportive role in the project by assisting with coordination and providing input to ensure the imagery accurately reflected the reserve’s environment and conservation mission. Burton noted that the sign serves not only as a welcome marker but also as an educational feature that highlights the importance of protecting Belize’s forest resources.
