Hilltop Prime Meats located in Blue Creek, Orange Walk, is a new slaughtering and processing facility that officially opened its doors on Friday, February 20th, 2026. The design and building of the facility was done to meet the rigorous meat processing standards put in place by the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA).
Area Representative, Jose Abelardo Mai, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, the Government of Belize and BAHA were all in full support of this new state-of-the-art slaughtering and processing plant.
Currently Hilltop Prime Meats is processing 7-10 animals weekly but demand is growing. The plant is supported by 200 animals of both Zebu and Brangus breeds that are fattened in feed lots. These animals are purchased from farmers in Blue Creek and surrounding communities.
Marketing, sales and distribution of Hilltop Meats is being done through Caribbean Chicken Ltd. which has outlets across Belize.
During opening ceremonies on Friday, Jacob Herbert, Chair of the Hilltop Board expressed appreciation to the Government of Belize for paying keen attention to the agriculture sector and for facilitating the duty exemptions for the processing and packaging equipment being used in the new plant.
According to the local investors, knowledge and experience for managing the processing plant is imported from Paraguay, who are experts in beef production and processing.
