By Zoila Palma: Today marks the first day of the 2025–2026 school year, and across Belize, thousands of students are returning to classrooms — from preschoolers stepping into their very first class, to primary school students ready to continue their academic journey.
In neatly pressed uniforms and with backpacks in hand, these students arrive eager to learn, make new friends, and take on the challenges of a new school year.
Over the past few weeks, teachers have been hard at work preparing their classrooms — decorating with colorful teaching aids, setting up learning centers, and creating lesson plans tailored to inspire and engage. Their dedication sets the foundation for an enriching educational experience.
Parents, too, have played a vital role in this preparation, ensuring their children are equipped with the necessary books, supplies, and encouragement to face the months ahead.
The start of a new school year is more than just a date on the calendar — it marks a meaningful chapter in every student’s life. Classrooms become second homes, where students form bonds, discover their strengths, and grow both academically and personally. Teachers become mentors, and classmates become a school family.
As we walk our children to class this morning, let us remember that parental involvement is just as important.
