By Zoila Palma: Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa, has announced the construction of a new police station in Bella Vista Village, Toledo District, as part of the government’s continued investment in national security infrastructure.

The announcement came during the final stop of his national police outreach tour, which included visits to police stations in Punta Gorda, Bella Vista, San Pedro Columbia, and Independence Village.

The new station will be funded by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and is expected to enhance public safety and provide improved facilities for officers serving the south.

Minister Musa, joined by CEO Sharole Carr, Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado, and Deputy Commissioners, commended the Toledo police formation for its success in reducing major crimes.

At the Punta Gorda Police Station, Officer Commanding Brent Hamilton reported a significant decline in serious offenses, attributing the progress to increased patrols, community engagement, and focused enforcement strategies. Minister Musa praised the officers’ discipline and dedication, emphasizing the importance of building public trust through continued outreach and responsiveness.

The visit to Toledo marked the conclusion of Minister Musa’s countrywide tour of police formations.

Throughout the tour, he engaged in direct conversations with officers about working conditions, promotions, and resource needs.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitments, including infrastructure upgrades, promotions based on merit, land access for first-time applicants, mental health services, and access to affordable groceries through the police commissary.

With the tour completed, the Ministry is expected to roll out a series of reforms and investments aimed at improving morale, modernizing facilities, and strengthening law enforcement across Belize.
