New Horizon Sporting Club’s Mundialito: Trinidad’s United clinch championship in penalty shootout over San Estevan’s Italy

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Trinidad’s United States captured the New Horizon Sporting Club’s Kevin Bernard Mundialito crown, winning a penalty-kick shootout 4-3 against San Estevan’s Italy after a 1-1 draw in the final at the Louisiana Government School Football Field in Orange Walk on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Although the United States were the favourites, Italy put up a strong fight. The Rodney brothers were the scorers in the final: Keizer Rodney, the tournament’s top scorer, netted for the United States, while Roosevelt Rodney scored for Italy.

In the third-place match, Yo Creek’s Argentina defeated Palmar’s Portugal 1-0, with Edward Cowo scoring the decisive goal.

Champions Trinidad’s United States received $1,000 in cash, a team trophy, and individual medals for all players and staff. Runners-up San Estevan’s Italy won $600 in cash, a team trophy, and medals for all players and staff, while third-place Argentina of Yo Creek were awarded $400 and a team trophy.

Individual awards were given to:

  • Regular Season MVP: Bryce Lawrence, Team USA
  • Finals MVP: Luke Mai, Team USA
  • Best Goalkeeper: Team Italy
  • 2024 Mundialito Top Goal Scorer: Keizer Rodney, Team USA
