Retrato de mujer: Mirada femenina en la pintura dominicana [Portrait of a Woman: The Female Gaze in Dominican Painting] was launched on November 25 (designated by UNESCO as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women). The book is a product of an initiative by INICIA Education, an asset management firm that sponsors a Social Impact and Education Fund. This article, from the Vice President of the Dominican Republic Raquel Peña’s site, states that “with this publication, INICIA reaffirms its commitment to strengthening Dominican cultural heritage and creating resources for research and study for future generations.”

Vice President Raquel Peña participated in the presentation of INICIA’s fourteenth institutional book, “Portrait of a Woman: A Feminine Perspective in Dominican Painting,” a work that recognizes the legacy of twenty Dominican women painters and their contribution to the country’s cultural development.

During the event, Peña emphasized that this launch coincides with a date that invites reflection and action. “As we commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we gather to honor women who paved the way and new generations who today express, through art, the strength of a vision that continues to transform our society,” she stated.

The Vice President affirmed that this collection complements the Government’s efforts to promote a society where all women can thrive in conditions of dignity and security. “Under the leadership of President Luis Abinader, we are working to make this vision a reality. A society that values its female talent is a society that grows,” she added.

Felipe Vicini, executive president of INICIA, noted that “c” represents an essential contribution to the country’s cultural memory, bringing together works, unpublished documents, and testimonies from artists whose careers have marked different stages of Dominican art.

“This book illuminates a fundamental part of our artistic history and provides valuable tools for schools, researchers, and cultural managers,” he stated.

The launch took place at the Theater of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) in Santiago de los Caballeros, with the presence of María Amalia León, author of the prologue, and Elsa Núñez, who spoke on behalf of the artists. Representatives from the public sector, the business community, and the cultural community also participated. [. . .]
