New Book: “Renewal”

46

Renewal, a collection of poems by Irvin Desir, will be published this week (January 15, 2026) by Papillote Press. With an introduction by Vladimir Lucien, this paperback edition reveals “a hidden gem that never knew its own brilliance,” in the words of Alison Donnell (Lost and Found: an A-Z of Neglected Writers of the Anglophone Caribbean).

Description: Much admired by Nobel laureate Derek Walcott, the poetry of the Saint Lucian poet Irvin Desir (1954-2024) is published here for the first time. Appearing in only a few anthologies during his life, this posthumous collection at last brings to our attention a voice too long unknown.

Caribbean Writers and Poets shares, “From quiet introspection to soaring hope, Renewal is a gathering of verses that breathe life into memory, spirit and change. Irvin Desir’s words move like the Caribbean tide — gentle, resolute, and deeply rooted in ancestral rhythm. Each poem becomes a whisper of rebirth, a mirror of the soul, a testament to healing and continuity. Let these poems guide you through stillness and storm, through shadow and light, into the grace of becoming once more.”
