Los días de su madrugada. Hostos: La biografía (Ediciones Patria, 2023) is a new biography by Marcos Reyes Dávila, an expert on the life and thought of 19th century Puerto Rican intellectual Eugenio María de Hostos (1839-1903). Moderated by Orlando Hernández, the book launch will take place on January 17, 2024, at 7:00pm, at Casa Norberto bookstore. Hostos: La biografía will be presented by Félix Córdoba Iturregui.

Description: This biography of Eugenio María de Hostos does not adhere to the legend of how the constellations are seen from the ground, nor the portrait of their pathbreaking travels. Its goal is to admire, in the brushstroke of the canvas or in the fine point of the image, how the idea of Antillean freedom shakes him in the word, in the lively classroom conversation, in the noisy press; its goal is to hear live how his struggle for the incandescence of America crackles in the granite of his fury; it aspires to feel, in the dust of the road clinging to his shoes and in the salt of his seasickness, the tension between humility and arrogance; it aspires to taste his hunger, his sleeplessness, his sated or indignant passion; it aspires to peek through the window with total indiscretion at his moral loneliness, the nostalgia of the elusive Eden and the muffled cluster of affections; it aspires to feel his sour pulse, to smell his disconcerted breath and faded illusion; it aspires to embrace the nostalgia of his fugitive dreams, and to tell how the days of the dawn of the greatest character in the history of Puerto Rico are entwined.
