#OneDayin2050 is a collaborative project for climate change activation; 365 fictional news from 2050, one for each day. A collaboration between One Day in 2050, ALAF – Asociación Latina de Futuros and Women Who Future(s), 2050 LIBROS— a collection of ecofeminist short stories by Latin American writers— was launched on November 13, 2025—in Brazil. The main prompt for the collection was, “If you could take a book to Mars, which one would it be, and why?”
One of the short stories was by our very own María de Mater O’Neill, better known in Puerto Rico as a visual artist, educator, and specialist in visual communication and strategic design. O’Neill explained, “It’s an illustrated book about books and libraries. I based my story on rescuing and taking Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro‘s book, AfroAglorismo, to a clandestine feminist library on Mars.” The story is part of her ongoing project, Trilogía de la Biblioteca Ahogada [The Trilogy of the Submerged Library].
Fernanda Rocha writes, “To tell the truth, it is a compendium that has moved me not only because of the stories it gathers, but because, in a time marked by polarization, achieving a collaborative project that articulates diverse voices, perspectives, beliefs and different worldviews about the future, is not only necessary, but revolutionary. From my perspective, this project does not talk about the future; it comes from there, in fact, it arises from many futures: feminist, decolonial and ecological futures. It is a book that hurts because it highlights what we are losing. It is a book that heals because it highlights that resistance is possible. And it is, above all, a necessary book because it reminds us that the future is already present in the stories we choose to tell and preserve today.”
