By Zoila Palma: The Central Bank of Belize have launched the 2025 banknote series featuring upgraded security features, new portraits, and updated themes, the banknotes aim to reflect Belize’s cultural heritage while maintaining the current exchange rate of BZ$2 to US$1.
Since unveiling the design in January, the Central Bank has led nationwide outreach to prepare the public, including schools, businesses, and financial institutions.
“We have worked diligently to ensure a smooth and secure rollout. We want every citizen to feel confident using the new banknotes,” said Governor Kareem Michael.
The new notes are now available at all domestic banks, though some ATMs may take additional time to begin dispensing them.
Existing banknotes will remain legal tender for now, but the Central Bank encourages the public to deposit them at financial institutions as part of the transition.
“We thank the public for their continued cooperation and support as we transition to this new series.”
