By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The new Belize money designs will be officially unveiled in January 2025 and the Central Bank is stressing that the new design is poised to celebrate Belizean heritage but the value remains the same.
“I can officially announce to you that in January 2025, the Central Bank will unveil a new design to enhance security and counterfeiting protection while celebrating the legacy and heritage of Belize.”
I must stress that while our new bank notes will look different, the value remains the same. Design does not equal value. A dollar is still a dollar, or a rate of exchange rate remains the same, which is two Belize dollars to one US dollar,” Central Bank Governor Kareem Michael said.
In addition, Michael explained that the removal of the monarch’s portrait is not unique to Belize.
“This is not unique to Belize by any means. Belize will be joining a growing list of Commonwealth countries that once featured Queen Elizabeth II on their money, but no longer do today,” Michael added.
“The new Belize currency designs will honor recipients of the Order of the National Hero, Right, Honorable George Cadle Price and Honorable Phillip Goldson. Later next year, and I’m projecting probably in the late third quarter, maybe, the notes will enter into circulation and be ready for you to use,” he added.
